Fruits and Veggies- 20% Project, Week 3

While working on my 20% project this past week, I was able to accomplish learning how to sign fruits and veggies. Some fruits and veggies I learned were apple, artichoke, avocado, banana, cherry, cucumber, and many more. This week was another easy week because most fruit and veggie was easy to figure out how to sign. I got guidance from a video I found online where a lady shows you how to sign everything in slow and normal motion. The video helped me the most because I’m more of a visual learner than a picture/poster learner. While learning I did have some trouble with figuring out how to sign banana, melon, and pineapple. There was a lot of motion in these fruits when signing so I had to keep replaying the video online. Finally, I made an adjustment to my plan for next week. Originally I was thinking of just sticking with learning more phrases but I’m ended up making the decision I’m going to be learning the colors also. Colors seem pretty important to learn so I’m excited to see how I do. That is a wrap on my update for this week as to my 20% project. See ya next week!

Animals- 20% Project, Week 2

While working on my 20% project this week, I was able to accomplish learning how to sign the animals. Some animals I learned were bat, bear, camel, elephant, bird, cat, bull, etc. I really enjoyed this week when working on my 20% project because all the animals I learned were super easy and I easily figured it out. I used a video that I found online with a lady showing how to sign the animals in slow and normal speed. This is what made it super easy. I also had the help of a friend named Hailey who is also learning ASL for her 20% project so we both helped each other. I did end up making a small adjustment to my plan for next week. I changed that instead of just learning phrases I will be also learning the fruits and vegetables. That is about it for my update towards next week for my 20% project. ‘Till next time!

Rad Reading- March

For this month, I am currently reading The Summer I Fell for My Fake Boyfriend by Sara Jane Woodley. This book is about two highscoolers that go to Edendale High named Wes and Anaya who decide to fake a relationship. Wes wants to make his ex girlfriend, Brooklyn jealous and Anaya wants to prove to the mean girls at school that she can get a boyfriend. Everything is planned out well because both Wes and Anaya are working at the Legacy Inn during the summer. The Legacy Inn is the perfect place to prove to Brooklyn and the mean girls that the relationship is real because they are all staying at the Inn. Anaya hopes that during the fake relationship she doesn’t actually fall in love with Wes because she knows he is trying to get back with Brooklyn and everything is just fake.

So far I recommend reading this book because not only do you read on Anaya’s perspective during the relationship but you also read Wes’s perspective. Getting to reading both character’s perspective really makes you understand how they feel and their thoughts on each other. Another reason why to read this book is the plot is super good making the love story between Anaya and Wes amazing. Lastly, on why you should read this book next is the chapters are nice and short. Reading small chapters are much more exciting because they make you want to read more.

My favorite character is Anaya because she was understanding when Wes told her what had happened with his dad and how his dad left him and his mom. One quote that shows this is on page 101, “My heart breaks for Wes in that instant. I can’t imagine losing my mom PLUS everything else- my friends, my school, my swim team, my life. Wes must be incredibly strong to move away from all that he knows, all that he loves.” This quote proves that Anaya is understanding because she has gone through a similar situation so she understands what Wes is feeling. Also, when Wes told Anaya about his dad Anaya didn’t judge him or start to think of him differently just because his dad left him and never came back. She made sure to tell Wes his wasn’t alone and made sure he was alright.

My favorite quote from the story is on page 101, ” … Sometimes people stay, sometimes they leave…” This is my favorite quote from the book because it really sends out the moral that in life you are going to meet people and they will stick with you through anything, and you are going to meet people where they are in you life just for a short time period. Not everyone you meet is going to stay in your life forever and that is okay.

Be my Guest!

There are so many people I would want to invite to dinner, but these are my top three: my neighbor who passed away, Sister Eugenia, my close friend, Gentry, my mom, and my dad. Firstly, I would invite my neighbor who passed recently, Sister Eugenia. My family meet her a few years ago and ever since we became really close to her. She was family even though she was our neighbor. She was the person I could go to and tell her everything, she had the best hugs, and her personality was the best. If I could just see her again one last time and give a huge hug that would be enough for me. Secondly, my close friend, Gentry. Gentry is a friend that everyone would like to be around. She is kind, funny, outgoing, and isn’t picky when it comes to food. She is the perfect person to go to dinner with. I met Gentry just last year but we have become close ever since and I would love to spend more time with her outside of school. Finally, my mom and dad. Both of my parents are big role models for me and I love spending time with them because it brings me closer to them. Also, I always appreciate having time with them both without my twin brothers. When my parents are together they become really funny and always are making jokes. That completes my list of who is invited to my dinner.

Future Career!

If I could have any job in the entire word, it would be a travel nurse. Ever since I was a little kid I have always said I wanted to be a doctor or nurse when I grew up. I even used to watch the show Doc McStuffins. It is all about a girl who wants to become a doctor so she fixes toys and dolls with her magic stethoscope. Here are some reasons why becoming a travel nurse is my dream. Firstly, I get to help people. I love helping people and making sure they are alright and if someone is down I do everything to make them feel better. That’s the kind of person I am. If I was a travel nurse I could do that everyday. People in hospitals are sometimes really sick and have to be in hospitals for weeks or worse months. Being a nurse would make me make sure those people feel better quicker so they can live a healthy life out of the hospital . Watching people leave the hospital all happy would make my heart filled because I would know I did my job giving them a second opportunity of life. Secondly, the money. Travel nurses make about sixty dollars an hour and six thousand four hundred a week. This is a lot of money especially the amount of money travel nurses get paid by the hour. Money is important in life because we need it everywhere we go and not many people get paid a lot. So, this job would be perfect in the area of money because the amount of money they get paid a week is what most American people make in six weeks. Lastly, I get to chose if I would want be a travel nurse domestically or internationally. This means that I get to chose between if I would want to work in state or leave out of state. If I chose out of state I could travel to so many places I have never been to before so it would be a win-win. I would get to do my job and also travel at the same. That’s is why a travel nurse would suit me as a future career. I hope one day I can achieve the goal of being a travel nurse.

Alphabet- 20% Project, Week 1

Hello my name is Aubrey, for my 20% project I choose to learn about American Sign Language. This week was amazing and I was able to accomplish my goal of learning the alphabet along with some small important sentences/words like “What is your name?” “Hello” “Hello, nice to meet you” and much more. I accomplished learning the alphabet by looking at a poster online along with a short video. For the small sentences/words I used a website called app.aslbloom.com. This was a very helpful site for me because there was a motion video showing the correct way to sign the sentences. While learning the alphabet I had a few struggles. I had trouble figuring out the correct way to sign the letters g, k, p, and s. Thanks to my helpful teacher knowing sign language she was able to demonstrate to me the correct way to do it. Also, since nothing went wrong, I had no adjustments to make. Finally, next week I will be working on learning the animals and a few more sentences. I’m very happy that I choose Sign Language for my project. It’s so much fun I can’t wait for next week. Thanks for following along!
