Seventh grade has given me many fun memories, but here are three. My first memory was meeting Makaela. Over time, she has become one of my closest friends, and I couldn’t be more grateful for her. Makaela is always there when I need a laugh, hug, smile, or just when I need someone to talk to. She is everything I could ask for in a friends and more. Secondly, was getting accepted into Yearbook for next year. I filled out a application and didn’t think I was going to get in because there is only one period and only a limited number of students can get in. When I found out, I couldn’t stop smiling and felt so much happiness. I can’t wait to create the yearbook for the upcoming school year. My last memory was created when I did “Olympics” in PE. During the week of playing soccer, I was able to score seven goals for my team. I kept scoring goals each game. It was surprising to me because a girl that was on my team named Lily. She plays soccer and only scored 2 goals, which most times she would score and not me or the other girls. I was proud of myself because I had never scored so many ever. This year has given me so many memories, and it is one to remember.
Tri-fold- 20% Project, Week 6
While working on my 20% project this week, I was able to accomplish planning what is going to be on my tri-fold, writing my script, and continuing to review everything. For my tri-fold, I began to print out pictures, my title, and also cut construction paper to use as my borders for my pictures. Also, I began to write my script. Writing my script isn’t that bad because all I’m writing is what I put in these weekly blogs. I just need to say my accomplishments, struggles, adjustments, final goal, why I chose ASL as my project, etc. Not too bad. Finally, I continued to review everything I learned about ASL these past weeks. I reviewed the emotions, fruits, veggies, colors, animals, and the alphabet. To help me review, I kept rewatching videos over and over again. I did have minor struggles, mostly with emotions, fruits, and veggies. Again, I just watched videos. I made no adjustments for next week. My plan for next week is to start finishing up my tri-fold and script so I can begin to practice for the evening event. That completes my update for this week. See you next week!!
Happiness in Life
This image has a strong message. The boy on the right is shown to have a huge smile on his face while running around with a toy car made of wood. The boy is also shown to be wearing clothes that are not in the best condition and is barefoot. This boy, who doesn’t have much, shows that he is grateful for what he has, even if it’s small and made by hand. Just because it isn’t what many other rich kids have as toys doesn’t stop him from having fun. He has a very different reaction to the boy on the left. The boy on the left is shown throwing a tantrum while having a pile of toys in front of him and a TV behind him. The boy has every toy a kid who doesn’t have much would dream of and still wants more. The boy looks like a kid who is spoiled, and if he doesn’t get it his way then he’ll just get angry. He has clean clothes, toys, and a sturdy house not made by hand, and that still isn’t enough for him. He shows that he isn’t grateful for the little things, and happiness for him is only achieved by receiving more and more. Personally, I agree with the caption and believe that happiness can be brought by the little things and not always by the big. Everyone should be grateful for everything they get because the thought of someone is what counts.
Rad Reading- April
For this month, I am currently reading Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. This book is about the main character named, Louisa Clark, but goes by Lou for short. Lou is like any other women; she has a happy family, a boyfriend named Patrick, and a job that she enjoys. But, unfortunately the job that Lou loved and had been working at for years, named the Buttered Bun, ends up closing and she needs to find a new job. Lou goes to job interviews after job interviews until she finds a job working for a man named Will Traynor, who is disabled and in a wheelchair. The first few days of working tend to be hard for Lou because Will is very rude and always has something bad to say to her about how she works. Lou is left confused and stuck on what to do.
So far, I recommend reading this book because you can really understand and picture in your head what is going on in the story from the author’s writing style. The author’s writing style uses figurative language and description. These two things are what make the book a good read. Everything about the book is perfect, making you want to keep reading and not stop. Also, the chapters are few pages long and don’t take that long to read.
My favorite character in the book is Lou. Lou is my favorite character because she is understandable about Will’s condition. One quote that shows this is on page 44, “…in those moments when I glimpsed him staring out the window. And as the days went by and I realized that his condition was not just a matter of being stuck in that chair, of the loss of physical freedom, but a never-ending litany of indignities and health problems, of risks and discomforts, I decided that if I were Will, I would probably be pretty miserable too.” This quote proves that Lou is understanding because seeing him every day made her realize that Will doesn’t always have it easy and that it must be difficult for him to be normal and walking to being in a wheelchair and disabled. She thought twice and realized that being in Will’s shoes must be a challenge, and she too would feel like her life is ruined.
My favorite quote from the story is on page 194, “‘ You only get one life. It’s actually your duty to live it as fully as possible.'” This quote is meaningful to me because it tells me that I should take risks and not waste a moment in life because I never know if I’m going to wake up the next day.
Review Day- 20% Project, Week 5
While working on 20% project this past week, I was able to accomplish reviewing everything I have learned about ASL. I reviewed the colors, emotions, fruits, veggies, animals, and the alphabet. This week was just filled with lots of review because next week I’m going to be getting my tri-fold and I would love to began decorating it. Though it was review week I still had small struggles here and there. I struggled with mostly everything except the alphabet. I had to rewatch videos, look at pictures, and ask one of my friends who is also learning sign language for help. The videos and asking questions soon helped me and I was able to refresh my memory. I did make one adjustment to my plan for this week and next week. I was supposed to start my tri-old this week but they didn’t come in time so I will began my tri-fold next week. I’m actually happy I didn’t get my tri-fold this week because it gives more time to go to the store and buy more things for my presentation. I really want to make this presentation look prettier and better than my last. The presentation is all I’m going to be working on next week. I can’t wait. That is about it on my update for my 20% project. See you next week.
Favorite Room!
The room in my home that is my favorite is my bedroom. Firstly, my bed. I always get a good night sleep because of how comfortable my bed is. My bed is the place I go to after a long day at school or if I just want to take a nap. Also, my bed is the coziest thing I have ever felt. It has fluffy blankets, a fluffy comforter, and I have comfy pillows. You can’t get me wrong when everything is fluffy and soft. Secondly, it’s the space where I can just relax and have time for myself. There is always times where I just need a second to take a breath, read, watch a movie, play the piano, etc. I can’t always do this outside in the living room or at the dining table because either my brothers are really loud or my mom is cooking. That is why my room is my go to place because I don’t get distributed. Thirdly, I get to clean and organize my bedroom every Sunday. Cleaning has always been my therapy. I enjoy every second of it. The feeling of cleaning my desk, drawers, washing my sheets, organizing everything just brings me a lot of joy. Also, if I don’t have my room clean and my bed made I can’t seem to get anything done. I tend to have less energy and just want to watch TV when nothing isn’t in place. When I have my room clean I get all my chores done and I feel happy. Lastly, my LED lights. My LED lights always light up my room in many different colors making it look really cool and pretty. That concludes everything on why my bedroom is my favorite room. What’s yours?
Colors and Emotions- 20% Project, Week 4
While working on 20% project this past week, I was able to accomplish learning how to sign the colors and emotions. Some colors that I learned were red, purple, green, blue, white, and black. Then the emotions I learned were happy, sad, nervous, excited, emotional, angry, busy, and many more. This week was easy but I still had some struggles. Most of my struggles were when I was learning the emotions. I struggled with busy, bad, good, will, and excited. I soon figured it out because I was playing a video I found online and keep replaying the video until I got it. I also had my amazing teacher help me with some emotions so, I thank her very much for her help. During this week I made no adjustments. My plan for next week is to start putting everything I’ve learned into sentences, and I’m also going to start working on my tri-fold. Thanks for following along!
Fruits and Veggies- 20% Project, Week 3
While working on my 20% project this past week, I was able to accomplish learning how to sign fruits and veggies. Some fruits and veggies I learned were apple, artichoke, avocado, banana, cherry, cucumber, and many more. This week was another easy week because most fruit and veggie was easy to figure out how to sign. I got guidance from a video I found online where a lady shows you how to sign everything in slow and normal motion. The video helped me the most because I’m more of a visual learner than a picture/poster learner. While learning I did have some trouble with figuring out how to sign banana, melon, and pineapple. There was a lot of motion in these fruits when signing so I had to keep replaying the video online. Finally, I made an adjustment to my plan for next week. Originally I was thinking of just sticking with learning more phrases but I’m ended up making the decision I’m going to be learning the colors also. Colors seem pretty important to learn so I’m excited to see how I do. That is a wrap on my update for this week as to my 20% project. See ya next week!
Animals- 20% Project, Week 2
While working on my 20% project this week, I was able to accomplish learning how to sign the animals. Some animals I learned were bat, bear, camel, elephant, bird, cat, bull, etc. I really enjoyed this week when working on my 20% project because all the animals I learned were super easy and I easily figured it out. I used a video that I found online with a lady showing how to sign the animals in slow and normal speed. This is what made it super easy. I also had the help of a friend named Hailey who is also learning ASL for her 20% project so we both helped each other. I did end up making a small adjustment to my plan for next week. I changed that instead of just learning phrases I will be also learning the fruits and vegetables. That is about it for my update towards next week for my 20% project. ‘Till next time!
Rad Reading- March
For this month, I am currently reading The Summer I Fell for My Fake Boyfriend by Sara Jane Woodley. This book is about two highscoolers that go to Edendale High named Wes and Anaya who decide to fake a relationship. Wes wants to make his ex girlfriend, Brooklyn jealous and Anaya wants to prove to the mean girls at school that she can get a boyfriend. Everything is planned out well because both Wes and Anaya are working at the Legacy Inn during the summer. The Legacy Inn is the perfect place to prove to Brooklyn and the mean girls that the relationship is real because they are all staying at the Inn. Anaya hopes that during the fake relationship she doesn’t actually fall in love with Wes because she knows he is trying to get back with Brooklyn and everything is just fake.
So far I recommend reading this book because not only do you read on Anaya’s perspective during the relationship but you also read Wes’s perspective. Getting to reading both character’s perspective really makes you understand how they feel and their thoughts on each other. Another reason why to read this book is the plot is super good making the love story between Anaya and Wes amazing. Lastly, on why you should read this book next is the chapters are nice and short. Reading small chapters are much more exciting because they make you want to read more.
My favorite character is Anaya because she was understanding when Wes told her what had happened with his dad and how his dad left him and his mom. One quote that shows this is on page 101, “My heart breaks for Wes in that instant. I can’t imagine losing my mom PLUS everything else- my friends, my school, my swim team, my life. Wes must be incredibly strong to move away from all that he knows, all that he loves.” This quote proves that Anaya is understanding because she has gone through a similar situation so she understands what Wes is feeling. Also, when Wes told Anaya about his dad Anaya didn’t judge him or start to think of him differently just because his dad left him and never came back. She made sure to tell Wes his wasn’t alone and made sure he was alright.
My favorite quote from the story is on page 101, ” … Sometimes people stay, sometimes they leave…” This is my favorite quote from the book because it really sends out the moral that in life you are going to meet people and they will stick with you through anything, and you are going to meet people where they are in you life just for a short time period. Not everyone you meet is going to stay in your life forever and that is okay.
